1700 purchasers spent more than $2.1. billion on statewide contracts in 2022
During March we celebrate Public Procurement Month to acknowledge the professions that play a significant role in the efficiency and effectiveness of both government and business.

DES' Contracts and Procurement staff help state agencies and other public entities buy goods and services they need at the right time and for the right price so they can focus on their missions. We partner with customers and vendors to deliver competitive contracts and creative solutions that make purchasing easier.

Our work, done on behalf of all state agencies and many other public entities, supports DES' mission of strengthening the business of government by saving time and money for agencies while boosting value and reducing risk.
We also champion two very important initiatives for all Washingtonians. We've created policies and resources that encourage environmentally sustainable purchasing practices. And we are working to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in state contracting by dismantling barriers for small and diverse businesses in Washington state.

Gov. Jay Inslee sent a letter to DES Contracts and Procurement staff this month in honor of Public Procurement Month. He said, "As stewards of billions in taxpayer dollars, procurement, contracting, and purchasing professionals have the awesome responsibility of ensuring public funds are used in an efficient, equitable manner. Those in this field dedicate themselves to providing the best value for every taxpayer dollar and exercise significant influence on economic conditions across the state of Washington."
